Association for Project Management (APM) – APM Project Management Awards 2019
The project management profession is crucial for delivering value to the economy – it generates £156.5bn of annual GVA in the UK – but it is rarely recognised for its contribution.
We at the Association for Project Management (APM) wanted a bigger, bolder awards ceremony that really celebrated innovation on a global scale. As the only chartered body in project management in the world, we want to be seen as the real champion of new thinking and best practice.
The APM Project Management Awards have been in existence since 2005, but they really arrived in 2019.
With refreshed categories, digitisation of the operational processes, a new, prestigious brand and an enhanced guest experience, the 2019 APM Project Management Awards was set up for success – and did not disappoint.
Our winners included a maternity technology project that is reducing the number of stillbirths in its region, a PM that delivered a transformation project after two spinal surgeries and projects that promote sustainability and better mental health. They really matter.
One finalist said: “I am proud to be part of it. It has motivated me to work even harder and try and make a difference for the better.”
Emerging Payments Association – Emerging Payments Awards
The Emerging Payments Awards celebrate innovation, collaboration and emerging payments by recognising companies that have made significant advances in how we pay today. The winners was announced at a glittering ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London attended by 800 of the industry’s most senior opinion-formers and decision-makers.
With over 8 hours of networking time, this prestigious event is where relationships are formed and reputations are built. Now in its twelfth year, the Awards was attended by an international audience of over 800 senior decisions makers from across the entire emerging payments value chain. The Awards are curated by an international panel of judges and are renowned for recognising only the very best innovations in the ecosystem.

GSMA GLOMO Awards at MWC Barcelona
The GLOMO Awards (The Global Mobile Awards) are the pinnacle of the mobile technology industry. Run by the GSMA, the award Ceremony concludes at MWC Barcelona.
It has never been a more exciting time for the connectivity industry than right now; traditional players are completely re-evaluating the very DNA of their companies, start-ups are redefining the possible, providers are innovating at an unprecedented rate, the media are excited and the industry is ready.
In 1995 we applauded the world’s first flip phone, in 2020 we’re talking about the first 5G-enabled, foldable smartphone. A quarter of a century has changed the mobile industry beyond the early tech pioneer’s wildest dreams.
The #GLOMOAwards was set to return to MWC Barcelona 2020. With a revamped ceremony to recognise and honour the individuals, the teams, the organisations and the partnerships which have changed the meaning of what it is to be connected.
But then the corona virus struck and in an unprecedented decision MWC Barcelona was cancelled. The night of the decision the GLOMO team mourned, but the next day – they organised and set to continue to execute the mobile industry’s most coveted moment.
Institution of Engineering and Technology – Churchill Medal Award
The origins of the Churchill medal date back to 1946 when Sir Winston Churchill gave his name to an award that would recognise the significant engineering contributions of individuals during World War II. The Medal became the Society of Engineers most prestigious award and continues to pay tribute to the teams and individuals for their outstanding engineering achievement.
In 2011 it was reinstated with the support of seven Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs). Lead by the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), the PEI’s set about creating a stronger identity for the medal.
The medal now recognises Achievement in Engineering and Technical Advancement in support of the development and use of capability to support Military Operations/Readiness.
The first presentation of the re-instated award in 2012 was at a routine IET defence lecture compared to 2019’s outstanding reception and dinner for 160 guests. The awards have been presented by Rt. Hon Sir Nicholas Soames, Rupert Soames OBE and Vice Admiral Sir Simon Lister as well being broadcast via British Forces Broadcasting Service Television.
By 2021, the PEIs hope to grow the event further and increase attendance to 200 guests, with a member of the royal household invited to present the award.
Institution of Structural Engineers – The Structural Awards
The Structural Awards are the world’s foremost celebration of structural engineers as innovative, creative design professionals and the guardians of public safety.
For over 50 years, they have showcased the world’s most cutting-edge engineering achievements. Past winners include iconic structures such as the Sydney Opera House, the Pompidou Centre and the Severn Bridge.
All entries are reviewed by an eminent panel of judges who are truly passionate about structural engineers’ contribution to society as design professionals.
The Structural Awards are a global programme that inspires our members, engages with the general public and helps create industry partnerships and networks.
The Institution of Structural Engineers is the world’s largest membership organisation dedicated to structural engineering with over 28,000 members working in 105 countries around the world.
Royal College of General Practitioners – Inspire Awards 2019
Recognising commitment from GPs around the UK, the inaugural RCGP Inspire Awards were a night of celebration, pride, and above all inspiration. Through nineteen award categories, the RCGP set out to celebrate the outstanding commitment and dedication of members around the country to better general practice. Held at the iconic Anfield Stadium on 23 October 2019, over 130 delegates came together to celebrate achievements in community-building, innovation, medical education, and above all in ensuring general practice and the people in it is the best it can be. The Inspire Awards changed our relationship with our members in an incredibly positive and uplifting way; giving them a platform to celebrate each other’s achievements as well as seeing them recognised by the RCGP itself. Here’s to the Inspire Awards 2020!
TOPRA – Awards for Regulatory Excellence
Over the past 10 years, the TOPRA Awards for Regulatory Excellence have raised the profile of the contribution that regulatory practitioners make to delivering innovative high-quality healthcare products to patients.
With carefully targeted and professionally relevant categories applicable to a diversity of entries, these Awards have introduced a culture of celebration in a previously under-appreciated profession. The Global entries from all sectors of regulatory practice have produced finalists from 22 countries and winners from regulatory agencies as well as industry sectors, including human, veterinary medicines and medical devices.
A rigorous independent judging process has ensured integrity and credulity for the winners and finalists. These Awards have positioned TOPRA as an arbiter of excellence across the profession worldwide, increasing recognition for the association as well the wider profession. The TOPRA Awards have become an anticipated event in the regulatory calendar offering sponsors the opportunity for high-quality engagement and regulatory scientists a sense of professional pride in their achievements.
