Best Awards Event Production (on the night)
AV Awards 2018 – Corporate Event Services Ltd (Corporate Events)
For two decades, the AV Awards have recognised the best in the AV (audio visual) industry. In 2018, the awards celebrated it’s 20th anniversary, so it was only fitting that the event be bursting with audio visual splendour – innovative yet with a nod to the magazine’s heritage.
AV Magazine turned to Corporate Events to create event concepts based on the awards’ unique and vibrant branding which featured brightly coloured illustrations of cogs, tech products, circus ringmaster and steampunk host Gizmo, a character created specifically for the event.
Video played a starring role in the show and was enhanced further by the immersive theming created on the set which was accentuated with cogs and metallic pipes. Corporate Events’ in-house studio team created all content for the AV Awards sting shown during the event’s grand opening and throughout the awards presentation, inspired by the awards branding and 20th anniversary celebrations.
Being the AV awards, it was important that the awards represented innovation in the industry, so a selection of creative agencies and production technology innovators were invited to share their ideas – the most unique, impressive and on-theme suggestions included cake projection mapping and a fully functioning technology suit.
BIFA – Broadsword Event House
Each December, Awards Season, Christmas and the British Independent Film Industry merge to provide us with a perfect storm of an event. The stars literally align on the red carpet at Old Billingsgate for a glittering celebration of British film where you don’t need a Hollywood budget to find yourself sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in movies.
The British Independent Film Awards are 17 years old and Broadsword have been privileged to be their technical partner since 2009. Broadsword work closely with organisers as their main technical adviser and our job is to make the nominees, presenters and winners look and sound as great as possible. Managing the playback of film clips is a particular challenge given that the room is full of established filmmakers who know exactly how their work should look and sound, so there’s no margin for error here.
Energy Awards – Eclipse
The Global Energy Awards, run by S&P Global Platts are known as the ‘Oscars of the Energy World’ and therefore require a production company that can not only help them maintain this reputation, but continually raise the bar in attendee expectation. Managing the event for a 20th year, Eclipse was tasked with producing an event that could continue to impress the energy industry’s global elite.
This year’s event at Cipriani Wall Street needed a landmark ‘wow-factor’ so the Eclipse team created a stage set with impact, which included curved staircases on either side, two low level walk-on positions, a 40 ft wide front projection screen and a 3D holographic fog screen within its backdrop. To create a dramatic atmosphere and awe-inspiring environment, washes and spots hung from the truss system were used to create stunning floor effects while LED uplighters were used to light the columns and walls. Finishing touches also included four 45ft high confetti cannons and an ice sculptures representing the events 30+ sponsors.
A 37-strong team from Eclipse joined 14 local crew members to install the show and with precise planning, Eclipse was able to make S&P Global Platts’ vision for The Global Energy Awards a reality.
Pride in the Job Awards – NHBC
NHBC’s Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry. Running for 38 years, the awards scheme is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house-building.
Over 16,000 site managers working on NHBC registered sites are automatically entered into the competition and are subjected to a rigorous 18 month transparent and consistent judging process.
To win an award, site managers must demonstrate consistent good working practices, from their leadership skills and technical expertise, to how they motivate their teams to produce the highest quality new homes.
Pride in the Job has four award levels. Quality Awards are announced in June with winners invited to celebrate their achievements at one of 11 Regional Award ceremonies and compete for a further Seal of Excellence and Regional Winner title.
Regional Winners then become a candidate for a Supreme Award with Supreme Winners and Runners-up are announced at a prestigious Gala ceremony in London – a black-tie event with a celebrity host and entertainer.
A Pride in the Job award is the highest accolade a site manager can receive, and the Awards are increasingly recognised by homebuyers who are looking to purchase a quality product.
